Ponies at Dawn - Ignite (Compilation)

#05 — Luna Ticks — Alcohol Like Oxygen
«In a car I just can't wait»… wait, no… I mean… Honestly I simply missed this type of stuff on P@D, it's really been a while, nah?.. Or is it just me, huh?.. Anyways, never change, guys, tchie

#08 — PegasYs & Koa — Hinterland (Rabbit Hole)
I like the «bridge part» that connects the pieces, keeps the song parts together and also serves as both an introduction and a looped neverending ending for this song. Yes, that was pretty cool.

#11 — Dijit & ThatMusicBrony — Fried Food
Chill and playfully crafted. Not only the chords messing around in weird shapes and combinations, but the hard-hitting half-drops (halves of the drops, wut?..) coming almost out of nowhere, followed by the fast-paced nearly-funky groove. Overall sounds like a mellow-crazy experimental dance music. This is what EDM stands for, right..? >_>

#15 — Faulty — Hidden (feat. ThatMusicBrony)
Why does this sound like a throwback to «Among the Stars»? I mean, maybe it's just me but… It's pretty comfy though, yes Oo

#18 — Quadrivia — Amulet
Wait, Trixie? Oo I think I really missed this part… I mean, I missed the whole stream *including* this part. Damn, okay Oo I also didn't expect the second part to be that… I N T E N S E. I have no other words to describe that… madness Xx

#19 — lia;quo — Crystal Corruption II
One of many nostalgic flashbacks on this album, this is the name I haven't heard in a pretty long while… I think..? While bringing the old vibes it shows off some progress towards «musicalness» and composition in general, while still remaining «on track», so to say.

#21 — Homage — Free (feat. FritzyBeat) -Francis Vace Cover-
Fun, quick and pretty unique. That's also a slightly unexpected cover if you think deeper of the lyrics. Or maybe it's just me. Also, don't forget about the 7/4 thing to spice up the whole song.

#22 — Plum Creek Rhythm Section — Fanfiction
That's a lengthy journey, just like a long-read where the story unfolds slowly, accenting every once in a while with the fire flashes of sharp phrases and sentences. Most of the times it lazily drags forward letting you observe the scenery, but these choruses just get me. The overall vocal work is great here as usual, but yes, the choruses, the choruses, THE CHORUSES!

#33 — BlackIceMusic — Fluffy Marshmallows (feat. Chasing Dawn & Lennon Black)
Well, okay, so this is *censored* and, like, *censored* even though *censored*, tchie. Overall it's just *censored*, maybe for the best, I dunno *shrugs*

#40 — Gigapixel — Mosaic
For some reason I enjoy how cute and relaxing this broken thing is. Broken in a kaleidoscopic way, where everything glitches, sparkles and fills the metal-walled room with clanking and ringing noises that sound surprisingly soothing and calming.

#42 — Skron — Maze Of Thoughts
This is nice and soft and lovely and there's something familiar in this song that I can't recall. Plus the drops are neat, tchie.

#44 — Faulty — Rise Up (feat. StealingShad3z & Doodled)
Oooo, what a banger! It starts slowly and slightly boring but then it just drops soooo damn hard, like… UNEXPECTEDLY hard. Especially with Doodled's malicious-ish rhymes going full-insane-mode. With a song this short it may sound like it's not enough but naah, it's perfectly filled with killer elements, wooo~~

#52 — Pegskasister — Pegasus Ska Sisters
This is stupidly wicked. In a good sense of course. The idea behind the lyrics and how it's been executed is pretty cool — especially the usage of some «show-style» lines and the nailing breakdown at the end.

#54 — Suskii — No Love (feat. Scoonie)
NOW THIS IS WHAT I CALL HARDCORE. Or deathcore? Doesn't matter much, since the very basis of this type of music is just… HARDCORE y'know..?! It hits RIGHT THERE, just as it's supposed to hit. No compromises. Pure aggression and brutality. Perfectly balanced as all hardcore acts are meant to be.

#60 — Dionte George — Love And Reflection
A very interesting experimental concept of mixing break-beat-like flows with aerial flowerful piano/synth melodic lines followed by the clean and crisp saxophone over the calm water surface on the serene and puffy chords with a pedal tone going through the whole second part of this composition. I could draw literal parallels between the title and the music, but do I even have to?..)

#61 — Totalspark — What Remains
More flashbacks and more spiritual sequels, I guess..? It's always fun to come back to something to reimagine what was made and how else that could turn out. And this interpretation is a really beautiful and mellow example of it. While following the preceding event, it also brings something new and unique to the table.

#65 — Age Of Vinyl, Power Note & Tw3Lv3 — Beauty (feat. MC-Arch)
This is lovely, Arch's manner always makes me feel better, he's just doing it so passionately and inspiring and here his rhymes are accompanied by an atmospherically fitting instrumental work. I like it.

#67 — PSFMer — Wonders
Ah, simple and calm, dreamy and relaxing. I like the soothing atmosphere in this dnb tune and the middle section which has this soooooo familiar single-noted voice line that makes the whole track remarkable and memorable for me.

#72 — Wandering Artist — Fire City (Day & Night)
A tune so playful and cheerful, moving with those pulsating rhythms and the sparks all around… that it just shines with happy warmth and peace ^_^ I find it interesting that it's the night time (assuming from the title..?) that brings the strict dancey beat to the scenery, tchie. Did I just hear Metapony vibes..? >_>

#73 — RoomVR — Peace & Quiet
And another soft and chill composition consisting fully of large and slow-paced piano over the sounds of a day by the shore. Waves, winds, seagulls, calm piano melodies and… bliss.

#04 — L-Train — Daybreaker Boogie (feat. 4EverfreeBrony)
This one is nicely composed and arranged even though I'm not a big fan of electro-swing as a music genre (aaaa, I just can't dance ><'). It has the right catchy vibes and it's really groovy… in a certain way, yeah. There are even some very cute references to classic jazz things which I really adore, tchie. The best part starting at 2:23 with the unison riff upon the classic drum rhythm is just SMASHING, yes ^_^

#09 — Scraton — Sweet Little Nothings
Oh, this is interesting. Not entirely my thing, but there is definitely something to it, especially the pitched voice chops that sound insane yet passionate and sensitive in a way. Somewhere on the very edge, I guess. Moving between barely two+smth chords works perfectly when done right — and this track is a nice example of it, where this part practically serves as a basis for both of the drops here, connected by a mellow middle part.

#13 — bank pain — Fog In The Treetops (feat. Koron Korak)
This is some really comfortable ambience right here. Comfortable… in a strange, anxious way. Rainy aggressiveness in despair — that'd be the perfect description for where the track leads you to. It just keeps progressing towards something misty and swamp-green. Fog, it is — but I think it's more than just «a title attached to the music» but the actual scenery of a dense-foggy bamboo forest hidden in a morning rainy mist. That's some really haunting atmosphere. «breaking of dawn, pt.2», amirite..?

#23 — The Wasteland Wailers — Spun (feat. Brittany Church & Haymaker)
Something died in the forest, I guess (haha, get it???). Now this was unexpected to hear. And those chord twists during the chorus (why is there only ONE aaaaa I needed more of that beauty Тт) and the solos that slowly progress into the, well, coda? The ending also gives a very strong QotSA vibe which is, like, DAMN, WHY IS IT SO GOOD. I'm surprised and impressed Oo

#25 — Replacer — Days Of Silence
Something died in the forest (2). Oh, no, wait, never mind >_>
To be honest this musical simplicity led me astray. Another vocal experiment, designed to be truly unearthly and feather-like. And then I was, like… excuse me?.. Several times I went through the whole lyrics until it just CLICKED and I went full OH MY GOSH, THIS CAN'T BE..! It's one of those songs where it just _speaks_ for itself. And it just spoke to us and… I feel like it's one of the most relatable songs I've heard in a while. Couldn't be executed any better than that.

#35 — NeverLastStanding — Fire Heart
I hear a sequel to «Fuchsia Dream», definitely! But now it's dedicated to a different pony, right..?) Great work on voice chops as usual and yes, I do love the fact it has the familiar elements and the style, while still bringing something fresh to the stage — three drops, each next one harder than the previous!

#41 — Zizkil — Princess
Glorious. This is the first word that comes to mind when I'm listening to it. It just sound glorious and fashionable, with slow steps transforming into something majestic and royal, yet looms with a bitter-sweet scent of loud techno-neurosis, where a single glitch in the system reigns above the common sense. As if the world is just a fragile projection coming from one purple-headed mind. Jee, why does it sound so echoingly good and glorious… Xx

#47 — Whirly Tail & John Kenza — God Of The Seas
Fantastic work! The fact that I can clearly distinguish the styles of both only makes the impressions stronger. Familiar and appealing synths with the _right_ chord progression over the hardstyle kicks transitioning into the triplet'ed pirate-ish tune that draws a captivating image of a godlike creature crunching the rusted submarine remnants at the very bottom of the ocean with deep humming and rumbling metallic sounds heard from a thousand kilometers away from the place. Now this is something Oo

#50 — The Horse Agrees — Revenge Of The Pangolin
Well, here comes a song about… uhm… pangolins..? Who came up with this idea? How toothless they have to be?.. It sounds so wild, so wooden and pure, almost like the tropical rain in the desert… The song, of course, not the idea! I love the liveliness and the natural flow of this one, especially with the way it's arranged and accompanied by random underlining elements here and there — especially the brief addition of the trumpet and the bass playing the main song motifs. Pangolin-pangolin.

#53 — Blackened Blue — Spark (feat. PrinceWhateverer & L-Train)
Quality nu-metal, yes! Sometimes I just forget that it's been about two decades since this type of music «golden age» and although it sounds nostalgic to me I still find it refreshing and entertaining to find more and more music pieces constructed in that way. The classic riffing style, the scratches, the rhymes, the drums — everything here simply speaks for itself. It's canonical in a certain way and I love it!

#56 — L-Train — Philomena
«Classic hard rock, but it's djent now». A pretty unexpected blend to say the least because from the sound of it I could clearly say at first it's stoner-like hard rock — but the modern interpretation of it, e.g. the really low-tuned guitars and the musical context/setting make the whole composition sound unique and tasty — especially the soft and transparent bridge part in the middle. It's not much of a movement, but the steadiness and stability in the pace. Modest.

#57 — Idyllia — Mare Cognitum (feat. Velvet R. Wings)
Atmospheric black metal on P@D O_o With modern crispy sound-design and symphonic elements accompanied by a wordless voice. I… think something THAT prominent never happened before in the modern P@D history Oo Even the very beginning of this song said it clearly enough: this is going to be one heaven of a journey. That's another side of black metal, where black is the brightest and the shiniest colour of all, it's the mellow black light that darkens the disgusting sunshine for some time. And I highly appreciate the existence of this musical equillibrium.

#59 — BlueBrony — The Sacking Of Griffonstone (feat. CadetRedShirt)
Don't want to sound offensive but this is something I could rather expect from Michael Picher than BlueBrony. The cinematic scenery in this song is breathtaking, vivid and it forces the imagination to draw the tense action almost immediately! Now this is how one tells a whole story with little to no spoken words, but with the music lines and compositional structures!

#68 — Hay Tea & ALfiux — Revive
Oooo I definitely must mention this one! Again, a very short act that was filled with exquisite chords and smooth beats accompanying the soft yet agonizing memories. It's so pure and serene, there's nothing else that would ever bother this memorable moment ever again. I love it so much for it is truly beautiful in its atmosphere *_*

#16 — Mantlegen — Flint And Steel
Alright, I didn't expect this one to hit me, but it just SLAPS. That slow and steady build-up brought the tension to where I least expected it. This is the type of drop I needed! It just breaks into pieces and comes literally out of nowhere. And the half-whispering faint voice-lines between this hitting mess sound hysterically eerie and soooo fitting. Sad to know this track is criminally short for what it offers — but maybe it's for better. Just the perfect amount of this stuff to taste..? Maybe one more time, huh?..

#39 — TCB — Yona Gonna
Whoa, now this is a remix of some crazy quality! Oo I always love when familiar songs get reharmonized in completely different ways that change the mood of the original. And it's a perfect example of it, right here! With the crashing and glitching voice chops in the middle/second half this turns out to be wicked, uncanny and broken on so many levels. Awesome horror, desperate sadness, stitched together with rotten threads and rusted needles.

#55 — Thrasher & Night Crow — Desync Reality
Not gonna lie, this one sounded really unexpected to me. Thrasher switched his polished sound to a MUCH more raw and dirty one and mixed it with HEAVILY distorted and barely distinguishable vocals that are AMAZINGLY PERFECT for this occasion! *_* Yes, I would call this one «modern modern mdm» if I could but… I think an umbrella term like «modern mdm» alone should work just fine. It has enough contemporary metal elements from glitching electronic breaks to djentcore'ey and hip-hop'ish occasional beats blended together and resulting in… this. THIS. T H I S. Prefectly reflects one's mind.

#71 — Mufaya — Aegis Of Rockneheil
For some reason Mufaya's orchestral works have that evergrowing tension going through the whole track. Things that just slowly keep growing and progressing and culminating in something breathtaking and highly emotional. I could literally compare it to climbing a mountain only then to jump off the cliff in despair and acceptance of the imminent. Something that grants the freedom only by taking a life. And in this restless flight there are all the colours of the emotional spectrum, all the rays of light in the universe, all the dreams flying by in a fraction of second, all the bloodred tears mixed with crystal-clear smiles of hope — and there's just so much more to it…
