Ponies at Dawn - Eclipse (Compilation)

#02 — L-Train — Paint The Moon Red (feat. Koa, TheMusicReborn, Zephysonas & General Mumble)
The more instruments, the better! Pretty nice solos here — especially the trumpet-sax duo. I also feel like there was a jojo reference hidden… somewhere..? Maybe..?

#07 — Camelia — Start Button
This sounds a d v e n t u r o u s!!! The chiptune-ish energy and rhythms at some parts sound like a deep-dive videogame — not epic in a bad way, but captivating and fascinating to play, a game world worth diving into. And it is overall groovy and catchy! Extra points for the slowdown at the end that for some reason felt very natural and fitting ^_^

#08 — NeverLastStanding & loophoof — Delusion
Very heavy and sinister. It is clearly full of energy but it's the type of vibe one would've expected from stylish and elegantly evil villains. Aphix and loophoof know well, how to transform this type of vibe into a music track. Showtime!

#14 — Dijit — Anemoia
Very strange and tasteful compilation of energetic yet tender, atmospheric and classy syncopated chords and melodic lines. Really groovy and smooth-funky. The type of music that makes you think and makes your brain work while giving you a 100% relaxation and satisfaction Oo

#17 — Hearse Percy — Gold (feat. Koa & General Mumble)
You know what? Talk-box! TALK-BOX! T-A-L-K-B-O-X!!! *_* It just never gets old!

#18 — John Kenza — Remember
Another one of those Kenza's tracks that sound happy, careless and almost festive-like. I could literally smell cinnamon in the air! It's very warm and cozy, especially with the addition of the lead melody (presumably guitar..?) floating above the mix in the last minute of the track ^_^

#21 — BlackIceMusic — Eternal Night
A slightly newer, fresh approach in compositional art that keeps the recognizable elements yet demonstrates more elaborate improvements in general, especially the unexpected track ending with a slight style change. And of course the voice chops work is amazing as usual!

#23 — TCB — Friends Can Change The World VIP
It is interestingly crafted and structured with impressive precision. Despite the relative positivity and cuteness, this one sound uncanny and unsettling most of the time with bits and pieces torn and mixed together in a paranoid mish-mash-like white-noise-ish transmission.

#33 — Totalspark & Tw3Lv3 — Orbit
Very nice and chill liquid dnb with occasional empty and detached vocals, that for some reason still sound emotional and hopeful. A blend that worked really well.

#39 — Einarx — Lyrids
I like how tight and gritty this one is. Even the chord progression feels fitting, not to mention the small melodic elements here and there. The technical aspect of neurofunk is shown at its best.

#40 — Gray Princess Society & lia;quo — One Trick Pony
I am quite surprised by this track, mostly because the occasional voice chops remind me of something extremely old yet familiar that gives me instant comfy chills. And again, the chord progression doesn't feel like something alien or unfitting — in fact it's quite the opposite, especially in the drops! Well done!

#48 — Monkeys, Inc. — Rangoon
Why??? I… uhm… Okay, I really enjoy the instrumentation and the passion you sing it all with, and the simplicity and juiciness of the arrangement, but… why?..

#50 — StealingShad3z — Living The Life
A very cute pop punk song with good and simple vibes. The verses feel like having some extra spice in them which is not something one'd notice at first listen. Also the crusty bass of course!

#52 — Flittzy — Circles
Flittzy being cute and careless in his melancholic dancey sadness, soothing and semi-whispering again, yay!

#53 — Naturematthe & Michael Picher — The Pillars Of Equestria
This really sounds like an anthem, and yet somehow I doubt that was the intention. I highly appreciate the classical approach to the music form arrangement and solemn instrumentation with a feeling, only a brass section can give (not sure if I heard the occasional oboe-like woodwind there at some point..?)

#55 — Faulty — End Of Time (feat. Koa)
There are some subtle melodic elements in the track that make it sound doubtful in a good way Oo Faulty's standard bangers are nevertheless of great quality and this one is no exception.

#58 — Dropper Vampire & GrazySmash — Moon On Fire
Pretty nice banger that combines the best elements from both artists very well here. At times it really feels like the this fusion _had to happen_ eventually because of how natural it sounds. They fit perfectly!

#60 — GrazySmash & Ice Angel — Retribution (feat. N. Hollow)
Short and aggressive, punchy and rad. I did not expect Hollow to sound _that_ thrashing and impulsive, but that worked great here!

#62 — NeverLastStanding — Go With Me
I hear Aphix once again making whole vocal lines with lyrics out of voice chops and making them work with the uplifting instrumental! That's the stuff I'm here for! ^_^

#64 — L-Train — It Came From Next Tuesday
A surf-dnb direction now gets a heavier twist and even HEAVIER breakdown that slowly accelerates to a light speed after the «ZA WARUDO!!!» time stop. A hilarious music concept and track theme, and it's both confusing and amusing to listen to.

#66 — bank pain — 3AM Is A Good Time To Remember Your Eyes (feat. N. Hollow)
Out of bank's album context this track feels different now. However the way all elements come together here is impressive. Noisy dirty slightly detuned crunchy guitar works really well with Hollow's verses and mellow beat. But it hits differently in context anyways…

#68 — Osoch — A Longing Introspection
You got me with that EXTREME diminuendo after the first minute, I thought it's gonna end RIGHT THERE or maybe just fadeout but no, it was a lie! Clever compositional trick, I'd say! And I feel like you're good at piano in general with such music, tchie)

#71 — Kyradeen & Mufaya — A Lonely Path
Calm and natural combination of environmental ambient atmosphere and continuous movement and music development. The slow growth into something bigger and more solid sometimes slightly pushes the serene emptiness away from the picture, but still two approaches go along very well with no conflict. Balanced in precision and haze.

#03 — 4EverfreeBrony — This Is What It's Like (feat. Envia Sun, SaxPon3 & TheMusicReborn)
I like this very soft and accurate mixing — it feels very comfy and pleasant for this type of music. I also really enjoy the idea of the different instruments supporting each verse differently — accordingly — with fitting effects after each line, adding more to the atmosphere and the song story. Oh, and the sax solo definitely!

#10 — Frozen Night & PrinceWhateverer — Lunar Eclipse III (feat. Holly Frances Royle & Andra Stefan)
A new iteration of «Lunar Eclipse» — probably the final one even. This feels like a huge step forward in terms of compositional structure and the variety in music parts — not to mention the addition of more complex elements to the canvas: while keeping the main theme recognizable and comfy, he also added some transitional chords and supportive layers in form of guitar/violin solo parts and extended melodic lines. Splendid work, visible and audible progress!

#12 — Jyc Row & PrinceWhateverer — Final Eclipse (feat. Celica Soldream)
Apparently this one is also «a lesson learned». The song provides now more solid mixing and compositional meaning in the most of the structure — the movement makes more sense now and it builds the necessary tension properly. At some moments it even sounds impressive with how the harmonic pallete is accompanied by the bassline. Definitely an improvement worth mentioning!

#24 — Thrasher — The Darkness Within
Yes, more instrumental melodic death black stuff! The sound of it is a really classy level of quality — and more than that, it has the decent amount of Krimh-like evergy, which is delightful and promising. Also that one single glimpse of screaming although felt lonely, yet I'd say… if it'd be more elaborate, that'd be a PERFECT fit for this type of music!

#25 — Blackened Blue — Infliction
This song feels like a BIG jump forward in terms of sound-quality and overall production! Exactly the type of altmetal that makes you feel paranoid, anxious, trembling in ecstatic vivid visions, wicked, surreal fantasies that surround you tighter than four walls and almost choke you with claustrophobic fear. It works best with the lyrics of the song of course — just to live through it is already a high-adrenaline experience.

#26 — 4EverfreeBrony & Drummershy — Ponies On I-5
Funky blues rock that actually ROCKS! Courtesy of those tasty and punchy drums spiced-up with the little drum fills here and there and a few simple but stylish solo choruses surrounded by the main theme. And just you wait for the real drive in the second half of the track, where that almost stoner-like riff simply RIPS!..

#28 — Replacer — Handbag (ThatMusicBrony Remix)
Gosh, THIS is beautiful!.. Squeezing out so much from the original and giving it so much MORE! More details and elements!.. Slightly different vibes brought by uneven time signatures and extra reharmonization at some points — which feels very logical and natural in some parts of the song, especially when it comes to the build-up for the final part of it. Brilliant work!

#29 — Replacer — High And Dry
Never running out of ideas, never running out of thoughts. Feels more like running away from something or someone, no?.. Or maybe the other way around: running towards something or someone? Am I just reading a story of one's life again? Why is it so weird, yet adventurous and captivating? I don't know. But it's a great tune as — almost — usual. And once again I'm charmed by the story told >_>''

#34 — Kyradeen & Itchigotchi — Take Flight
What a soft and soothing comeback! It's been a while since the last time we've heard Itchi on P@D albums, but I guess the time has come to return! I like how the many-voiced choir is swirling and embracing the steady pace of the instrumental dnb. The whole prayer-like song just breathes and blooms, it sounds extremely relaxing and inspiring ^_^

#36 — Mufaya — Enraged Forest
Mufaya is already known to us as an orchestral composer who tends to write tense and impetuous pieces that combine mellow harmonies and calming supportive arrangements with unsettling movement, nervous emotional excitement and overall great track development. This one not only gives all of that, but is also written in 9/8 (or 9/4) which personally feels more like (2/4+5/8)x2 or 2/4+5/8+5/8+2/4 for the sake of natural counting ^_^'' Something to think of. Something enjoyable and beautiful.

#37 — Radiarc — Of Shadows And Nightmares
Now this is some intense orchestration! I especially like the little piano parts/short melodies that fill the space between the string/wind lead motifs and glueing it all together when needed. The fast pace of the track still somehow leaves enough space and time to enjoy the observationityness of the composition, encouraging to pay attention at small details all the same — including the chord progression that sometimes provides very bright and spicy bittersweet tastes. Unexpectedly good and interesting.

#59 — RKDM — Tunnel Vision
This one feels really special for waaaay too many reasons. The chord progression? Gloomy, curious, liquid and something in it just makes my whole body shiver with excitement and nostalgic pain. The voice chops? Awesome work as usual, after so many cool tracks RKDM made in the past! The track structure and how it's designed? Exactly what it needed to bring everything together. It may not be the bangiest banger on the album, but its value is in fact in something different, that feels so dear and comfortable to enjoy.

#06 — Pony Music & iblank2apples — Bonjour (feat. Jenceno)
Damn, THIS is a bop! I love the sound signatures of each artist in this one and I especially adore the classic Pony Music sound-design and composition structure — it all comes together, from the used synths and samples to how several melodic lines are layered upon each other to create a tasty and groovy artificial music sandwich of sorts. It hits really hard and well! Somehow gives me subtle MBR vibes, but that's just me, I guess. I prefer the originality and those familiar vibes of artists' classic works much more ^-^

#42 — Zizkil — Slight Romance
At times it sounds hysterical and unsettling, the other moments it's grievous, desperate and mournful. All those melodies and interestingly repetitive chord progressions pierce the mix continuously without giving much time to catch some breath and reflect on what's going on. But when a moment of that desired chill peace finally comes, it still leaves a painful and lonesome beautiful taste of the lumious particles flying around a vast empty landscape. Yes, this is very beautiful and feels desperately sorrowful.

#56 — BlueBrony & Totalspark — The Secret Agent
Such an incredible and unexpected collab O_o I am not entirely sure who was responsible for which parts in here because both are known for pretty wide-ranged things as of now. The way noir-orchestral-like vibes transition into the heavy growl-ey drops is natural, intense and yet very straightforward at the same time. But what I love here the most is the middle part that starts with mellow strings followed by a hazey reverb-ey guitar and then grows into a sinister-esque anxious ambiguous epicness (in a good way). And then almost at the very end this combined vibe returns before the questioning and uncertain coda. Breathtaking, truly breathtaking Oo

#67 — BlueBrony — Civil Twilight
The longest track on the album and frankly one of the most unique as well. First thing that I want to mention is the repeating «Duel of the Fates» contrapunctive leitmotif that suddenly works really well with the whole arrangement — it fits perfectly to the mood and the atmosphere of the track. The eerie puncturing cold synthetic beeps sound ambient and vibrant and, with the orchestral instruments overtaking the foreground at times, it gives a necessary breathing room inside the composition. Personally it's that exact synth playing the same descending passage again and again that makes the track whole and complete. Perhaps it serves as a framework for the story landscape here and as a pulse that keeps the steadiness and the neverending heartbeat. Mesmerizing and sorrowful.
